Update on Nerio and Skinyourscreen.com

Friends, an update on Nerio: Nerio has been airlifted to a hospital in Paris and successfully arrived at 00:30 GMT this morning (Sunday) and his condition has been stabilized, although his condition is still listed as serious. There has been significant head trauma, and once his condition stabilizes further he may be airlifted to a specialist in either Germany or Canada that deals with closed head trauma. Lets all continue our vigil for this dear friend and colleague, praying daily for his safety and recovery, and for the comfort of his family and friends.

Regarding Skinyourscreen.com - it seems my site has been a target for repetitive hacking as of late, and the site is again down. Luckily the satellite sites for skinwiki, the podcast, and this blog are still operational. The existing site is based off of an older e107 content-management system which I have not upgraded due to a burgeoning schedule at my laboratory. Whether it is the work of the same ErrorHack who displayed his lame protest to the Danish cartoon or the work of some other shady unscrupulous moron I don't know - I'm GREPping the raw site logs at the moment to determine whats up and restoring a backup of the site. They can continue to hack, and I will continue to restore. This type of illicit, and illegal behavior by anonymous cowards will not be met by the closing of the site. They can break the site, but they can't break our spirit.

  • Taras, No contact information yet. I'm obsessively checking email for news of his condition and/or whereabouts. I hope he's recovering well. He's sorely missed by myself and others.

With regards to the AstonShell thread, it's very touching to see how much support Nerio's really got. What a fantastic and generous community of friends.

I haven't been able to put anything together for Nerio yet (like a PayPal fund to get him a gift). Unfortunately, 2006 is turning into a depressing year on multiple fronts... my wife's grandmother may soon be dying and my oldest child was injured while sledding with some friends this week. I've also had to prepare for a departmental presentation on my research as well as putting together a thesis committee meeting and presentation. When it rains, it pours, it seems.
